Design: Awarded the 2006 Singapore Institute of Architects Design Award for Best Commercial Interior Design, Hotel Maya holds the design torch up for Kuala Lumpur and beyond. A word to sum Hotel Maya might be eclectic. There is the odd chandelier, frequent usage of tropical bamboo, minimalist bathroom… all coming together in a coherent way.

Mood: You feel like you are walking into a high-rise spa, with a scent wafting through the building.

Perfect for: The KL roadtrip or weekend burst.

Resort guests: Varied mix of Hong Kongers, Singaporeans on a short weekend and non white trash Europeans.

Around the resort: Zouk KL is right across the road. KLCC is a jaunt away.

Gripes: None.

What's special: The HEATED infinity pool, the free-flowing breakfast buffet, the delicious Cantonese lunch, the lazy bathtub in the Deluxe Suite. God is good. Our tip is that to get the Deluxe suite for a more spacious room and bathtub. The Standard room does not have this sanitary frill.

Like an oasis in the Malaysian desert, Hotel Maya offers a reprieve from the very mundane urbanity of Kuala Lumpur. I would rank the heated infinity pool as one of the better dips around. Hotel Maya is a worthwhile escape.
